Your mouth is one of the most functional parts of your body. From your mouth you eat, talk, and even show emotions. Many people are self-conscious about their mouths because their teeth are not attractive. This may make it hard for them to be in public, smile, or even have their picture taken. Luckily, there are many things that you can do to get the smile that you want. Here are some things that a cosmetic dentist can do to help you get the smile that you want.

1. Whitening

If your main concern is the color of the teeth, there is professional whitening that produces great results. There are a couple different options for whitening. You can get a chemical whitening where you use trays each night that help to pull the white out of your teeth with bleach. This works well for people who don't have terrible stains and who just need to whiten the whole tooth.

Another option is to get laser whitening. This is when they shave a small part of the tooth and then add the dye to the tooth. This is a great option for people who have small imperfections and who want all of their teeth to the look the exact same color.

2. Veneers

Veneers are a great option for people who have discoloration that is resistant to whiten, and/or teeth that are different sizes. For instance, if you have some teeth that are longer or shorter than the others, teeth that have serious stains on them, or other problems veneers might be the best option for you. Veneers are a porcelain overlay that they put on the tooth. This porcelain can be any color and size that you want, thus making your teeth look perfectly uniform. In addition, veneers are incredibly strong so you can eat foods normally without worrying about them cracking.

3. Dental Implants

Some people worry because they have lost teeth. If you have lost a tooth and have a gap, you may feel self-conscious about your mouth; in addition, it can be painful to eat. This is why a dental implant is the ideal solution. A dental implant will look and feel like your normal teeth. It can be inserted right into the gap and can be either permanently placed, or can be a retainer that you can remove as needed.

By understanding the different options for cosmetic dentistry you can know if getting treatment is right for you.
